Memorial in Dukla

On Saturday, the Minister of Defence Martin Glváč paid tribute to the memory of Dukla heroes. On a solemn ceremony held at the memorial to the Czechoslovak soldiers, he commemorated the 69th anniversary of the Carpathian – Dukla Operation. He emphasized the courage of the fighters for liberation of their country and their victory over fascism.

The Head of the Defence Department stressed that it is vital to search for new ways to raise the young people’s interest in history. “The younger generation has often no information and evinces no interest in historical events that shaped our country.

The direct participants of the anti-fascist resistance and war veterans took part in the commemorative ceremony as well. Minister of Defence awarded commemorative medals to seven participants of the liberation fight.

He commemorated the events that had taken place 69 years ago in Dukla also at the statue of General Ludvík Svoboda and at the Soviet Army Memorial in Svidník.
